The general managers of the hotels hosting the teams during Super Bowl XLVI - University Place Hotel and the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown - placed a bet on who would win the game. The AFC Team Champions were the New England Patriots and the NFC Team Champions were the New York Giants. The terms of the wager were as follows:
1) If the Giants had won, the AFC Team Host GM would serve New York Cheese Cake and Manhattan Clam Chowder to the NFC Team Host GM. Likewise, if the Patriots had won the NFC Team Host GM would serve Boston Cream Pie and New England Clam Chowder to the AFC Team Host GM.
2) The GM hosting the losing team would also dye his hair to match the colors of the winning team. In this case, both teams have Red, White and Blue Colors.
3) And finally, the management team of the losing hotel would donate 100 hours of donated time and resources to Riley Children's Foundation.
Certainly, neither hotel minded the donation of the 100 hours of service to a charity as important as Riley. However, the other terms of the wager were a little harder to take. Unfortunately for Tom Cappucci - the GM of the host hotel for the Patriots- the Giants reigned victorious! Proving he's a good sport, Tom delivered cheesecake and soup to his rival. He also visited a nearby salon - the French Pharmacie to update his do to patriotic colors. (see below)
The AFC champion New England Patriots arrived in Indianapolis yesterday, Sunday, January 30th at approx. 5:15pm. They were immediately taken to their “home away from home” the University Place Conference Center & Hotel, located on the campus of IUPUI. A Press Conference took place in Scholars Hall, located within the facility, at 6pm. Tom Brady as well as Bill Belichick addressed the Press.
“It's really nice to be here, and it's time to get to work because we're here to try to win a football game." Brady told the crowded room of media representatives. When asked about practicing at the Colts Facility, “I've never been out there. I've heard that it's a really nice facility. I'm sure it would be. We're excited to get out there and see what it's all about. Hopefully, we'll be indoors all week."
For the AFC Team Host Hotel, it’s Game On! The staff and management of University Place is excited and proud to welcome their special guests for the week - definitely, a once in a lifetime experience.

June 29th, the Indiana Chapter of Meeting Professionals International recognized their best and brightest at its annual Award's Night. Among those presented was the 2011 Green Venue of the Year recognition. For the second consecutive year, University Place has won this prestigious award. Over the last two years, the facility has gained praise for the eco-friendly enhancements made and implemented to its daily operations. The staff, led by Green Team Leader Jane Whisman, is committed to finding ways to conserve energy and reduce waste. Chef Dan Noble's menus, served within the restaurants and throughout the banquet areas, have also won praise for their creativity and attention to sustainability. His "eat local" program is featured in the hotel’s restaurants Chancellor's and Our Den Sports Bar. The popularity of his dishes led to the publishing of the "eat local cookbook". It is sold in the hotel's earth conscious gift shop, Artisans. Gifts made from recycled materials, and made by local artisans, are featured. The shop also serves as a Hubbard and Craven's coffee outlet. Their use of fair trade providers made Hubbard and Cravens a logical choice when the concept of a boutique style gift shop was introduced.
Other environmentally conscious efforts include; updating all guestrooms with energy-saving compact fluorescent bulbs, recycling of plastic, glass, aluminum and cardboard, waste water reduction achieved through its guestroom linen reuse program, and break station replacements of all plastic water bottles with glass, china and dedicated water coolers. The staff of University Place is proud to accept this award and looks forward to advancing these green efforts in 2012.
