Indianapolis, IN 21 July 2011 – University Place Conference Center & Hotel is proud to announce the availability of a Cisco Telepresence Room, located on the 2nd floor of the Hotel. The Telepresence room provides dedicated high-end videoconferencing.  The service was designed to replicate face-to-face communication and eliminate the cost and time of long distance travel.

The service improves on the traditional videoconferencing experience through its use of high definition cameras, eye-tracking features and directional microphones.  This system also allows participants to share documents and presentations during the meeting.

The Telepresence capability also supports the facility’s green initiatives by reducing or eliminating the need to travel. It facilitates a 'greener' environment by reducing the carbon footprint. The service is complimentary to IUPUI faculty and staff and is open now, but is subject to availability. The room holds up to 12 people. Interested parties outside of the IUPUI Campus should contact the Conference Sales Department for pricing and scheduling times.   For more information call 317.274.3196.

June 29th, the Indiana Chapter of Meeting Professionals International recognized their best and brightest at its annual Award's Night.  Among those presented was the 2011 Green Venue of the Year recognition.   For the second consecutive year, University Place has won this prestigious award.  Over the last two years, the facility has gained praise for the eco-friendly enhancements made and implemented to its daily operations.  The staff, led by Green Team Leader Jane Whisman, is committed to finding ways to conserve energy and reduce waste.  Chef Dan Noble's menus, served within the restaurants and throughout the banquet areas, have also won praise for their creativity and attention to sustainability.   His "eat local" program is featured in the hotel’s restaurants Chancellor's and Our Den Sports Bar.  The popularity of his dishes led to the publishing of the "eat local cookbook".  It is sold in the hotel's earth conscious gift shop, Artisans.  Gifts made from recycled materials, and made by local artisans, are featured.  The shop also serves as a Hubbard and Craven's coffee outlet.  Their use of fair trade providers made Hubbard and Cravens a logical choice when the concept of a boutique style gift shop was introduced.

Other environmentally conscious efforts include;  updating all guestrooms  with energy-saving compact fluorescent bulbs, recycling of plastic, glass, aluminum and cardboard, waste water reduction achieved through its guestroom linen reuse program, and break station replacements of all plastic water bottles with glass, china and dedicated water coolers.  The staff of University Place is proud to accept this award and looks forward to advancing these green efforts in 2012.
